We are a British luxury brand creating elegant Long Jackets inspired by our Founder’s passion for 18th and 19th century British couture. Each piece is made with the expertise of Savile Row whilst honouring the female silhouette, for the confident woman of today.

Creating our Belle Brummell Long Jackets begins with the vision of our Creative Director, Claudia. Originally trained in classical opera and theatre, followed by a career in classical interior and architectural design, Claudia infuses her passion and experience into the process. Inspiration for our collection of Jackets came from original designs of George Frederick Worth, Christian Lacroix, Marie Antoinette’s clothing designer Rose Bertin, and our namesake Beau Brummell. The final profile for our Jacket references traditional men’s frock coats and women’s riding jackets from Savile Row.

Our ‘Long Jackets’ are named so, simply because the Jacket itself is a bit longer than usual. In regular women’s tailoring, the cut is often based on the equivalent male style, with the hem cut in a straight line across the hip. This is usually the widest part of a woman’s body and is often unflattering, not taking into account the difference in the female silhouette. Our longer profile offers an increased vertical line to the Jacket, which is more flattering and prevents the hem stopping sharp across the thighs and bottom. We also complete our Jackets with inverted pleating at the back and a scalloped hem. Our ‘tailoring tour de force’ provides elegant movement at the back as you confidently walk by.

Our Head Tailor trained on the prestigious Savile Row in London, synonymous with quality and expertise in the word of suit-making. Early in her career she also won the much-coveted ‘Golden Shears’ for the best work produced on Savile Row, and later she returned as a teacher. She uses bespoke tailoring methods that are often known as Savile Row techniques including crown shoulders and piping. These details create a structured jacket which enhances and flatters the female silhouette, whilst ensuring we maintain comfort for the wearer. Her level of expertise and female viewpoint ensures the highest quality tailoring for our unique designs.

Once the designs are established, the painstaking process of acquiring the finest luxury fabrics and trims begins. We focus on British and European made options in line with our core values. We source the finest British woven three-season woollen fabrics through Holland & Sherry, a preferred fabric vendor for Savile Row. Wool is a responsible choice for our heritage style Jackets due to its varied natural qualities. It is durable, renewable, breathable, flame-resistant, water repellant, hypoallergenic, requires little cleaning and perfect for the changeable British climate.

We purposefully combine feminine satin jacquards, plush velvets and creamy satins, with traditionally masculine fabrics, including mid-weight wools, tweeds and twills. This gives our Jackets their structure and durability, whilst maintaining their feminine style.

Passementerie and ornaments are a key part of Belle Brummell’s style vocabulary. Wide architectural bands of embroidery or 3-dimensional edging borders on velvet cuffs are applied with meticulous craftsmanship and finished to the highest standard. Each Jacket features custom gold-gilt Belle Brummell buttons, sparkling jet black bead buttons or matching couture silk buttons, which are all applied by hand. For a final flourish, detachable silk ornamental drops grace the back of each Jacket.

The beauty of our Jackets is in the detail and their timeless quality, ensuring that they always look fantastic, from weekday lunch to weekend jaunt, daytime meeting to evening event. We have also created detachable collar and cuff sets which snap into place and complete the look. Options include pique cotton, silk satin or velvet detailing, for an opulent finish. This reduces the need for jewellery or even a blouse underneath, our jacket gives you a perfectly pulled together look with a single garment.

Belle Brummell HQ is based just outside Brighton on the south coast of the UK. Our jackets are developed and handmade in London.
